As such, there is no “one right way” for a community to be organized. Weighing out the needs, limitations, values, and particulars of each group will allow the members to decide on the legal structure that better represents the group. Determining a legal structure requires deep and often challenging conversations. On the balance are factors such as equity, inheritance, decision making, finances, conflict resolution, and the multitude of ever-changing elements that make up the lives of each member and the community as a whole. During the Legal Basics for Communities Course , we’ll have an opportunity to dive into these areas from a high-level perspective and examine how different groups have addressed them. You’ll gain a baseline understanding to determine which conversations your group needs to have and which questions you’ll need to answer. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions relevant to your situation and unpack these issues in greater detail. The dynamic conversations that emerge from each cohort are what make this class so rich and relevant.
