View in browser A little update from The MEV, things are really coming together !☀️ Hello everyone! This is Lucy writing to you 😊 It’s been one of those months where so much has been happening quietly in the background, and suddenly it feels like everything is starting to click into place! ✨ The showhouse One of the biggest milestones is that the final orders for the showhouse wall elements are now done and dusted. Most of what we need is already on site too, the insulation and render boards are all there, waiting to be installed. Seeing them in person really made it hit home: this is really happening! 🏡 The steel frame did test our patience a little… delivery delays meant it took longer than we’d hoped, but the wait is finally over. The frame is complete, and even better, the Fermacell is already going up. Watching those first boards being fixed in place was such a “wow, we’re really here” moment (check out the photos below! 📸). There’s still plenty ahead of us, but right now it’s so exciting to see the project stepping out of the planning phase and into something you can actually see and touch! Out on site, there’s been great progress too. The ground has now been cleared for the first, second, and third villa phases, this means, that if you come to one of our tours, you will be able to envision your garden and get a real feel of what it will look like! 🌿 At the same time, work has started on clearing the water reservoir and treatment areas, quietly laying the foundations for everything that will come next. We’re still very much working towards having the showhouse shell finished in time for our February gathering. It’s a date that’s been in the back of our minds through every decision and delay, and seeing it feel more achievable by the day is just thrilling! 🎉 Inside the showhouse, things have really moved on. The underfloor heating is now fully installed, and the final layer of concrete has been poured. It’s one of those stages that doesn’t look flashy in photos, but it’s a huge milestone, and a very satisfying one to tick off! 👏 Energy certifications We also have some fantastic news on the sustainability front. We’ve just received the official energy certifications for both the showhouse and the townhouses, and they’ve achieved the very best energy categories! 💚 The first photo is for the villa, it has to be under 36 to be considered A but we're at 0! This means we have the best qualification possible! The second photo is for the townhouse, it's at 0.44, almost as good, but we're using it as a feedback loop to navigate some changes, so we're thinking about adding more solar panels to the roof in order to achieve the best energy certificates possible for these houses too! It’s such a reassuring milestone and a lovely confirmation that the principles behind The MEV are truly being carried through into the buildings themselves. Meet us onsite in February! 🤍 Thinking ahead to our February gathering, it’s impossible not to reflect on how meaningful the last two have been for us personally. My partner and I attended both the September and November gatherings, the first one my parents joined too, and it was during that visit that something really clicked. Being there in person, walking the land, standing on what could be our future home plot, and getting a true feel for the place is something no drawing or update can quite capture. Meeting future neighbours, watching kids and dogs running around freely, and listening to the founders and project manager share milestones and plans made the whole vision feel incredibly real. By the end of that weekend, we knew for sure this was where we wanted to be. By the time the November gathering came around, life already looked very different. Jesús and I were living here and working from The MEV offices, which made the experience even more special. It was lovely to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new ones, and to spend time talking with people about what they dream of bringing to this place, whether that’s opening horse stables, working in the health clinic, or contributing in other meaningful ways. I also found myself answering lots of questions about the school I’ll be running, which was really exciting to share and hear everyone’s enthusiasm. School update On that note, I actually had a call with Sharon yesterday, for those who still don't know her, she's a lovely lady who run's her own Waldorf-Stainer International School here in the area and she's helping us with the process of our own school at The MEV, so if you’re planning on moving here before your MEV home is ready and need a school in the meantime, there are options based on the same values and methods we’ll be using for ours. 🌱 We’re already starting to work through the very first phases! Right now, that means beginning the process of contacting the Department of Education and sending over the showhouse plans from our architect, so we can get the necessary inspections in place. The idea is to use the showhouse as a school for the first two phases until our dedicated school building is ready, and honestly, just thinking about it is so exciting! 🎉 Car-free environment And finally, I hope you received Alisa’s wonderful newsletter about a car-free environment and our plans for solar-powered microcars, please remember to check that out!
