We're partnering with Squad Mobility... Can't see this message? View in browser A Car-Free Village — Without Losing the Comfort 🌳 Hello hello! Happy Thursday everyone ☀️ I’m Alisa, the Community Manager here at the MEV. 👋 When I first heard about the MEV, one of the things that drew me in was the idea of creating a modern day Blue Zone, a place where we can live longer, healthier, and more connected lives. I wanted to move more, breathe cleaner air, and live in a community where it’s made easy to put my health and wellbeing first. So when Belinda and Iancu first told me about their dream of a car-free village, it immediately resonated with me. And now, 1.5 years later, we’re ready to show you more in-depth plans of how that can look like in the MEV. 😊 🌿 Why Car-Free? In modern cities, we’ve gotten used to building our lives around cars, with streets, garages, noise, fumes, traffic jams. But in the Modern Eco Village, we want to do things differently. The MEV was inspired by the Bluezones and the main ideas that everyday movement, spending more time in community and being closer to nature help us live healthier and longer lives. All of this is made so much easier by living in a car-free village. It means that we walk more, spend more time in nature and less time in traffic jams. It means that children can play and explore without the danger of cars rushing by. Streets become places to meet, talk, and share rather than just rushing from A to B. With fewer cars, there’s also less pollution, more space for greenery and animals. It helps us live lighter and share more, because not all 500 households need to own a car themselves, we can share as a community. We know that a lot of you like the idea of a car-free community in theory but feel reluctant to give up the freedom and modern comforts that cars provide for our everyday life. We feel that the solution lays in community-shared and solar-powered mobility and that this is a huge step toward creating the kind of healthy, connected, and sustainable lifestyle we all came here for. 🤝 Partnering with Squad Mobility To make this possible, we’re partnering with Squad Mobility, a Dutch company that builds solar-powered microcars. Across the MEV, we’ll have 7 internal parking and pickup points for Squad solar cars and electric scooters and their charging stations (see below). That means you’ll never be more than a few hundred meters away from a ride, ready to book via an app on your phone. The Squad Cars charge automatically by sunlight. Their solar roofs collect energy throughout the day, giving them up to 30–40 km of free range daily just from the Spanish sun. ☀️ These vehicles are designed to eventually even be self-driving, so in the future they can automatically move between charging and parking spots. Until then, we’ll have local team members managing the system to make sure cars and scooters are always available where they’re needed most. At the entrance of the MEV, we’ll also have a solar-covered car park, a space for residents who still need to keep a personal car. The solar panels here will not only charge vehicles but also store excess energy in community batteries, powering parts of the village itself. Visitors will have their own shuttle service, and residents can call for an internal “village taxi” to carry luggage or transport them to the main parking area... all part of our vision of shared, accessible, sustainable mobility. 🚗 Squad Car Features The Squads come in two variations, the L6 and the L7 (see below). The L6 versions can be used by anyone and you don’t need a driver’s licence or insurance to use these, even on the road (equivalent to a scooter). They are limited to a top speed of 45km per hour and will mainly be used internally, but can also be used for shorter trips to Planes or Alcoi. If you want to go for longer drives, like you’re visiting Alcoi, heading to the airport, or exploring the coast, you can book a larger, up to 4-person Squad through an internal app. This one will have a range of up to 100km or more by taking additional battery packs with you.🔋 L6e (Light model) Seats 2 adults (and space for 2 small children) No car license needed Top speed: 45 km/h Perfect for moving around the MEV or visiting nearby Planes. L7e (Extended model) Seats up to 4 adults Requires a car license Up to 90 km/h Ideal for longer drives and day trips. 💚 We want your Input Our hope is that the MEV becomes a model for a new way of living, one where innovation can make us feel closer to nature not further away. A car-free village with solar-powered squads is just one of the examples on how we want to achieve that. But we also want to hear YOUR ideas and creative solutions on how we can create a slower, healthier, more connected life together here in the MEV. One of the ways to get more involved is to become a member in our community early on. As a member, you get to make decisions with the other members in the community circles where we shape the future of our village, deciding together on schools, restaurants, facilities, gathering spaces, and so much more. 👋 Ready to join? Apply today 💻 Have more questions? Book a call with us You want to meet us in person first? There are two ways to experience the MEV in person: 1. Our Next Gathering: February 28th If you want to meet the MEV team and connect with future neighbors, you are invited! Every few months we host gatherings open to everyone, so you don’t have to be a member to join. 😊 The next one will be held on the terrace of the showhouse that we are currently building, so you can get a feel for what it will be like once we all live there and have dinners with our neighbours in our gardens together. Since our gatherings are getting bigger in size, we really need your help making sure there is enough food and space for everyone. Please RSVP before January 31st and let us know how many people will be joining you. RSVP for February 28th 2. Guided Tours We offer guided tours to help you get a feel for the land, explore your future plot, ask your questions in person, and meet others who are also exploring the possibility of living here. Upcoming Tour Dates (all in CET, on-site in Planes, Spain): Friday, Jan 16 at 12:00 pm Monday, Jan 19 at 12:00 pm Friday, Jan 30 at 12:00 pm Monday, Feb 2 at 12:00 pm Thursday, Feb 19 at 12:00 pm Saturday, Feb 28 @ TBD - MEV Gathering Check out the list of our dates for March-August here .
