The Farm, founded in 1971, is a historic intentional community that emerged from the counterculture movement and evolved into a sustainable village with international humanitarian outreach. Located on 1,750 acres in rural Tennessee, The Farm began as a hippie commune practicing complete income-sharing and has since transitioned to a cooperative village structure while maintaining its commitment to peace, sustainability, and service. The community is known for its pioneering work in natural childbirth through the Farm Midwifery Center, disaster relief through Plenty International, and education through its EcoVillage Training Center. The Farm continues to serve as both a residential community and an educational resource for sustainable living and social change.
